About the Event
Wycoller & Boulsworth Hill
Saturday 25 September 2027
After our August summer break, Conquer the Wild returns in September as we head into the beautiful Lancashire countryside for an adventure exploring Wycoller and Boulsworth Hill.
This one offers a brilliant combination of history, rugged moorland, remote trails, fantastic views and one of Lancashire's most distinctive pieces of public art, as our route also takes us past The Atom Panopticon.
With autumn just beginning to make an appearance, this should be a fantastic time of year to explore one of Lancashire's most distinctive landscapes.
Expect moorland, hills, history, art, plenty of mud and another proper Sunnywood adventure!
Wycoller, Boulsworth Hill & The Atom
Our adventure begins around the historic village of Wycoller, a place packed with character and surrounded by beautiful countryside.
From the valley, we'll leave the village behind and head out onto the surrounding trails as the landscape becomes increasingly wild and remote.
Our journey will eventually take us towards Boulsworth Hill, rising above the surrounding moorland and providing the main high point of our September challenge.
We'll also pass The Atom Panopticon, the striking contemporary viewing structure overlooking the landscape above Wycoller.
It should provide the perfect stopping point to take in the surroundings, grab a few photos and appreciate the landscape we've been exploring from a completely different perspective.
It's the contrasts that should make this adventure particularly special: the historic surroundings and old tracks around Wycoller, the striking modern landmark of The Atom, and the open expanses and rugged terrain of Boulsworth Hill and the surrounding moors.
And, as we reach the higher ground, some fantastic views across the surrounding Lancashire and Pennine landscape.
Conquer the Wild Hike & Trail Run Adventures
Our Conquer the Wild events are typically up hills, across moorland and along trails. They're longer adventures with more mud, more hills and more challenge: all of which usually means more laughs and some awesome photos!
Routes typically cover approximately 10 miles and take place on the last Saturday of the month.
Our hikers and trail runners start from the same location but head out on the routes in opposite directions, passing each other somewhere along the way for the obligatory group photo opportunity!
The adventures are led by our qualified Hill and Moorland team, bringing a wealth of experience, local knowledge and expertise.
Conquer the Wild is about discovering and exploring new places whilst completing a challenging route with the camaraderie of like-minded people around you. There should be no desire to beat anyone or break records.
This isn't a race.
It's an adventure.
Trail Run: typically around 3.5 hours
Hike: typically around 5.5 hours
Times will vary depending on the route, conditions, group pace and, importantly, how much we're enjoying ourselves! As this is a supportive group event accommodating a range of abilities, please consider the latest advertised finish time when making plans for afterwards.
Leave the planning and navigation to us. Your job is simply to enjoy getting out into the open, exploring the trails and enjoying the views and company.
With an emphasis on exploration and improving physical, mental and social wellbeing, rather than competitive times or distances, our adventures are led by a knowledgeable and experienced team who'll provide encouragement, support and plenty of humour along the way.
