Complete Your Silver Duke of Edinburgh's Award with The Sunnywood Project

The Silver DofE Award is a life-changing experience available to young people in Year 10 or aged 15+.

Any young person can do their DofE – regardless of ability, gender, or background. Achieving an Award isn’t a competition or about being first - It’s all about setting personal challenges and pushing personal boundaries.

The Sunnywood Project has a dedicated team of staff and volunteers providing the full award with support and guidance across all sections, and full Expedition training and facilitation.

What's Involved?

There are four sections to complete at Silver Level. To complete these, you will choose activities which will involve helping the community/environment, becoming fitter, developing new skills, whilst training for and completing a Practice Expedition and your Qualifying Expedition.

It's Your Award - It's Your Choice!

You’ll have the full support and guidance of your DofE Leader as you choose which activities to complete alongside contact sessions with your DofE Group to meet other young people, make new friends, and generally have fun!

Timeframes

You can start your award in Year 10 or as soon as you have turned 15. Anyone up to the age of 25 can achieve their Silver DofE. If you've already done your Bronze DofE, you'll complete your sections over the following timeframes:

Physical and skills sections: You'll complete one section for 6 months and the other for 3 months.

You will also need to attend a Practice Expedition of at least 2 days and 2 nights.

Haven't done your Bronze Award?

Don't let that stop you! All it means is you must do a further 6 months in either the Volunteering or the longer of the Physical or Skills section.

You can go straight to Silver or you may wish to do Bronze first - Click or tap here to find out more about that level.

How much will it cost?

Both the DofE and The Sunnywood Project endeavour to keep costs as low as possible. At the moment, participation places, including the Welcome Pack, cost £28 from the DofE for the Silver Award.

Including this cost, completing the Silver Award through The Sunnywood Project will be £125 from April 2024.

This includes:

  • The Participation Place and Welcome Pack from the DofE

  • DofE Card entitling you to discounts at a range of retailers, online and in-store

  • Contact sessions with your DofE Leader

  • Expedition Training or Refresher sessions

  • Facilitation of the Silver Practice and Qualifier Expeditions, including use of shared gear and kit such as tents, stoves, maps, and compasses

The Sunnywood Project is passionate about empowering young people. If you have any concerns about the costs involved in pursuing your DofE Award, please reach out for a conversation with our team.
