About the Event
Holcombe Moor Virtual 10K & 10 Mile Challenges
Take on the beauty and challenge of Holcombe Moor with our virtual 10K and 10 Mile challenges, and experience some of the most dramatic terrain in the West Pennine Moors.
Complete your chosen distance and receive the awesome Holcombe 10 finisher medal.
Brutally challenging yet hugely rewarding, these routes will take you through ancient woodland, open moorland, and past fascinating historic landmarks.
The routes will also showcase the incredible conservation work recently conducted by the National Trust team - more information about this work can be found here.
The Routes
Both distances begin outside the Hare & Hounds pub in Holcombe Brook, immediately taking you deep into Redisher Woods.
You’ll then face a steep ascent to the iconic Peel Tower, the historic monument that upon Holcombe Moor.
From here, expansive views stretch across Greater Manchester, Lancashire and beyond. On a very clear day, you may even be able to make out Snowdonia!
The 10K Route
Once on the moorland, the 10K route follows a scenic contour towards Pilgrims’ Cross, an ancient waymarker with roots going back centuries.
From here, you’ll traverse grassy ridges before beginning your descent along the bridleway.
Passing by Peel Tower once again, the return leg drops you back into Redisher Wood Nature Reserve, guiding you toward the finish back at the Hare & Hounds.
The 10 Mile Route
For those opting for the longer challenge, the route heads south from Pilgrims’ Cross, crossing Red Brook before continuing to contour around Bull Hill, with sweeping panoramas across the moorland.
You’ll pass by an area known as Wet Moss, where the National Trust has undertaken a major project to protect and restore the peatland. Find out more about this work here.
