Irwell Sculpture Trail Challenge

Join us for this exciting project, in collaboration with Bury Museum, to  experience the Irwell Sculpture Trail - a trail spanning over 33 miles: the UK’s longest public art trail. 

There’s over 70 artworks along the route. One of its aims being to connect various aspects of the Irwell Valley, its people, its heritage, its parks and its countryside, using artworks out in the environment.

The Sunnywood Project was commissioned by Bury Museum to audit the whole of the trail and is passionate about reigniting, reviving and promoting its significance to the local communities it passes through in collaboration with the museum. 

The Irwell Sculpture Trail Challenge forms part of that plan: to raise awareness that the trail is still very much in existence and should be used, explored and enjoyed by all.  

By taking part in this challenge you can potentially help shape and develop the future of the Irwell Sculpture Trail.

Join The Sunnywood Project to HIKE or RUN the whole of the 33 mile Irwell Sculpture Trail, (or shorter sections if you prefer), in a single day. 

The route options are:

 

Full (33 Miles)= Bacup to Salford Quays.

Half (16 Miles) = Bacup to Burrs Country Park. Or, Burrs Country Park to Salford Quays

23 Miles = Bacup to Agecroft Road

21 Miles = Ramsbottom to Salford Quays

13 Miles = Ramsbottom to Agecroft Road

10 Miles = Bacup to Ramsbottom

8 Miles = Agecroft Road to Salford Quays

7 Miles = Burrs to Agecroft Road

6 Miles = Ramsbottom to Burrs

Those who complete the FULL route will receive a finisher Irwell Sculpture Trail t-shirt. Those who undertake any of the other routes, will have the option to purchase an Irwell Sculpture Trail t-shirt separately.

There will be well-stocked aid stations along the route. These also form the start and end points for the various distance options.

Early Bird: £39 (until 31st January 2023) Normal: £45 

Please note that these are point to point routes - you should make your own arrangements should you need transport back to the start line.
