About the Event

The Irwell Sculpture Trail Tour


The Sunnywood Project has teamed up with Bury Art Museum to bring you six unforgettable adventures along and around the iconic Irwell Sculpture Trail - the UK’s largest sculpture trail!


Stretching 33 miles from the hills of Rossendale to the waters of Salford Quays, the Irwell Sculpture Trails features over 70 artworks, including 16 incredible sculptures directly on the main route and many more close to it.


Over six weeks, our newly designed routes will take you up and down the River Irwell, uncovering artworks that you may have never known existed; learn more about the long-standing favourites; whilst also taking the opportunity to embrace the green spaces, fresh air and the enjoyment of have a shared experience with likeminded people.


Whether you’re joining to get out and active, learn about the artworks and heritage, or simply to enjoy the social experience of adventuring with other likeminded people, this is your chance to experience much of the Irwell Sculpture Trail like never before.


Booking this single event will provide you access to Week 3 starting from the centre of Rawtestall (opposite ASDA / behind Bus Station)

Please allow enough time to get to the meeting point – we are unable to wait for you. 


Where Does the Irwell Sculpture Trail Tour Explore?

Week 1: 11/01/26 - Starting from Burrs Country Park

Week 2: 18/01/26 - Starting in Radcliffe

Week 3: 25/01/26 - Starting in Rawtenstall

Week 4: 01/02/26 - Starting in Whitefield

Week 5: 08/02/26 - Starting in Clifton Park

Week 6: 15/02/26 - Starting in Ramsbottom


Kit requirements:

For the the majority of events, it maybe required that you bring the following:

• Waterproof jacket

• Spare warm layer

• Fully charged mobile phone

• Suitable trail shoes or boots

• Personal snacks and drink 


Route

Each route will cover 4-5 miles across a variety of terrain. Some areas may be muddy, boggy or uneven underfoot.

Any specific requirements for the event will be emailed prior, however please get in touch via email if you have any questions in advance of booking.


You can join the Irwell Sculpture Tour as a Hiker or Runner - please select your prefered option when booking.


With thanks to Bury Art Museum, this is a free event however, a suggested donation of £5 will be greatly appreciated.

The Sunnywood Project is an award winning non-profit organisation offering a wide range of youth programmes and community activities which all aim to utilise the outdoors to enrich people’s lives.

Proceeds from many of our events help us continue this important work.
