Basic Map Reading & Navigation Training
Time to stop being 'navigationally challenged'
The Sunnywood Project is passionate about the benefits the great outdoors have on our physical and mental well-being. This event is for those with little or no navigation experience and is just as much about experiencing and promoting a love for the great outdoors as it is learning a new skill.
Demystifying the map and building confidence
Our Basic Map-Reading and Navigation Course is perfect for those preparing for events that require some navigation skill, those that just want to venture that little bit further, as well as those looking for a refresher.
What you will learn:
• How to orientate your map
• How to identify land features on an OS map
• How to navigate to a location using a compass
• How to estimate distance and pace
• How to navigate to a location using land features
• How to read the landscape and the map
Kit requirements:
We ask that participants are equipped to spend the day outdoors and, potentially, in remote area - please ensure you bring the necessary kit to ensure your comfort and safety on the day:
• Waterproof jacket and trousers
• Hat and gloves
• 1 litre of water
• Fully charged mobile phone
• Suitable trail shoes or boots
• Personal snacks
What we will provide:
• Compass (if you have your own and would prefer to use yours, that is also not a problem)
• Map
• Timing card / romer
